Scripture Readings for March 7, 2010

Beyond the Blame Game

Psalms  63:1-8 (CEV)

God's Love Means More than Life

1You are my God. I worship you.

In my heart, I long for you,

as I would long for a stream

   in a scorching desert.

    2I have seen your power

   and your glory

   in the place of worship.

    3Your love means more

   than life to me,

   and I praise you.

    4As long as I live,

   I will pray to you.

    5I will sing joyful praises

   and be filled with excitement

like a guest at a banquet.

    6I think about you

   before I go to sleep,

and my thoughts turn to you

   during the night.

    7You have helped me,

   and I sing happy songs

in the shadow of your wings.

    8I stay close to you,

   and your powerful arm

   supports me.

Luke 13:1-9 (CEV)

1About this same time Jesus was told that Pilate had given orders for some people from Galilee to be killed while they were offering sacrifices. 2Jesus replied:

Do you think that these people were worse sinners than everyone else in Galilee just because of what happened to them? 3Not at all! But you can be sure that if you don't turn back to God, every one of you will also be killed. 4What about those eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Do you think they were worse than everyone else in Jerusalem? 5Not at all! But you can be sure that if you don't turn back to God, every one of you will also die.

esus then told them this story:

A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard. One day he went out to pick some figs, but he didn't find any. 7So he said to the gardener, "For three years I have come looking for figs on this tree, and I haven't found any yet. Chop it down! Why should it take up space?"

8The gardener answered, "Master, leave it for another year. I'll dig around it and put some manure on it to make it grow. 9Maybe it will have figs on it next year. If it doesn't, you can have it cut down."

Christian Women’s Fellowship Report

By Kathy Easterly, CWF President

3/1/10

As our church observes the season of Lent, we look forward to a joyous Easter with our sisters in Christ.   We have an abundance of opportunities to worship and study together in March.

You should have received your letter inviting you to be a partner in providing a CWF scholarship of $600 to one of our graduating seniors.  We have been blessed each year to have a good response to this special ministry.   Let's show our students that we support them in continuing their education.   Make your check to CWF and mark it "CWF scholarship".   You may bring it to your group meeting, mail or bring it to the church office.  Thank you in advance.

If you volunteered to provide cookies for the Bloodmobile on Friday,  March 19, they will need to be in the church kitchen by 4 p.m. Thursday, 18th.   We need 10 dozen from each group.   I will see that they are delivered the morning of the 19th.

If you wish to attend Spiritfest at Camp Tawakoni on Saturday, April 17, you may pick up a registration form in the church office now or at your March group meeting.    CWF will pay 1/2 of the registration.  Your half will be $7.50.  This is always a wonderful day of learning, worship, fellowship and fun as we join our sisters in the South Central District.

The March general meeting will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m.  We will be voting on the slate of officers  approved by our executive board.   We are holding it on a Saturday afternoon in an effort to include those ladies who are employed during the week.   On this special afternoon we will be privileged to have with us Onalea Crile from Riverside Cup of Tea who will present our program.  We will enjoy "afternoon tea" with an air of elegance.   All ladies of the church are cordially invited to join in this special event!   Please join us.  You won't want to miss it!!
